I am planning to work in a hospital laboratory in a month or so as a laboratory assistant, analyzing human samples (from blood, urine, faeces, pus etc).
I would like to know (as no1 around me does or doesn't take this subject seriously!) what vaccinations or immunizations do i need and when do i need them how many courses etc (if u know 2 that detail)
would the NHS hav 2pay 4it? as i'd be working 4 them.
ThankyouNeed Dr advice- which vaccinations do i need to work with ';human samples';?
biomed - Each lab has a list of any required immunizations for its employees. Ask the lab administrator or personnel office. The hospital should provide and pay for any required ';vaccinations.'; The one that is essential is the series for hepatitis B. Others may be optional such as rubella (German measles).Need Dr advice- which vaccinations do i need to work with ';human samples';?
I work in a hospital so I asked the head of our lab.He said as long as you take universal precautions, head gear, gloves( double glove if need be), gowns, shoe coverings you should be all right. He empathized the mask, some of the people in the lab wear what looks like space helmets, others wear just the face masks that conform to your face.( like painters wear)Be especially careful with sharps and the eye wear he could not stress enough.( we had a young lady who didn't follow protocol and got squirted in the eye..she got AIDS..and recently died.)So please ask the lab when you are orientated, they will have protocol to follow, and do follow them.No ';if ';,';ands'; or ';buts';, follow them to the letter and you will be fine.Good luck and the head of the lab says good luck and any more questions I will be glad to ask him.
