DESPERATE need of Dr/Vets advice. Does my pet have cancer or an infection?

I live in Dubai where most people don't really know what they're doing. I have a siberian darf hamster. He's just under 2 yrs old. He was morbidly obese when i got him 18 months ago if that means anything... he's pretty healthy now though...

So over 3 weeks ago i noticed what looked like a tiny tiny eye infection on his lower lid... it has a yellow tinge to it and looks a little bit puss filled... It began getting bigger and then for two weeks it stayed the same size (still quite tiny) and didn't go away. I had touched it every other day to inspect it and noticed it gave my hamster no visible pain as he seemed quite indifferent.

So this morning i took him to the vet, who i wasn't impressed with. He didn't examine him properly and rough handled him and wasn't explaining anything properly yet he charged me a $40 consulation charge and a further $80 charge for a antibiotic solution diluted in water.

He told me that what my hamster has is either an infection of a tumour which could either be malignant or benign. He claimed he couldn't identify it because my hamster wouldn't stay still. He also said that if it is an infection which he said is unlikely, the antibiotics would clear it up and if it didn't clear up it was a sure sign of a tumour. He said there is nothing to be done about it because, although external, it is so close to the eyeball that surgery would be near impossible without removing the eyelid.

I came home feeling very depressed although i still doubt the vet's credibility. I did notice some slight discharge every now and then from my hamster's eye and the fact that his little lump has not changed in size or appearance in two weeks makes me wonder if it really is cancer or if it is an abcess or harmless lump.

I am so worried and cannot afford to take him for a second opinion. He is otherwise perfectly fine, apetite, stools, temperment, energy and all... Can anyone out there please please give me some advice from experience...even if you're just a regular Dr if you know the symptoms and can understand wether these follow actual malignant cancer symptoms then please please reply and give your opinion.

Emphasis on the no changing in size of lump for 2. Thank you.DESPERATE need of Dr/Vets advice. Does my pet have cancer or an infection?
Hi. You'll probably have better luck if you go to the Pets section and ask this under other pets.

I'm sorry he's sick!DESPERATE need of Dr/Vets advice. Does my pet have cancer or an infection?
could be an infected tear duct, in which case draining the lump would be all that's needed. Also could just be a wart or just a random growth, in which case there's nothing you can really do unless you really care about your hamster looking pretty. If it's obvious that it's not really bothering him I would just leave it alone. I don't think it's cancer though
