The reasons for induction when dealing with GD is twofold: 1) babies tend to be larger, leading to a risk of c-section after a long unsuccessful labor (though this is not always the case it is a risk); 2) GD is a health danger to mom and baby, the sooner the baby is born the sooner GD is gone.
It is not at all abnormal to not be dialating at 35/36 weeks. I have known people who were 41 weeks and not dialated. In fact my friend was induced at 41 weeks with each of her two kids and had no problems, both labors were about 8-12 hrs long which is pretty average.
Prhaps your doctor is concerned that if you have not dialated by then your induction mght take longer, but again, there is no guarantee of this either. Some women do not dialate until they are in labor. some dialate slow, others really fast.
Try not to worry and just prepare for your babies arrival, Good luck and congrats!I am 35/36wks witth GD will be induced at 38 wks but not dialated yet DR. seems worried about this any advice.
Advice?...On what exactly hun?
You're going to be induced in 2 weeks no? It doesn't matter if you're not dialated, you will be induced anyway.....so you can start dialating..
GD is something to be concerned about...that's why your Doctor is inducing you early.....right?
Advice would be....
Try and take the next two weeks as slow as possible.
I'm glad you and the baby have made it this far! I don't think the dilation matters much, but ask him why it concerns him. Ask for the details so that you aren't so worried! Have you lost your mucus plug yet? Maybe that is his concern? If you loose it, you have dilated a little and the baby is more viable. Hope he will give you straight answers! But mostly, you be sure you are ready to bring baby home, have everything arranged to be convenient for you, and relax! Enjoy this baby!!!!
I had GD and started dilating at 30 weeks. Went to the hospital several times for them to stop labor. I'd dilate up to 5 before it would stop. They kept me overnight 3 times. At 32 weeks they started giving me steroids to help his lungs develop, and then induced after I had taken them for several days. He is fine and healthy @2 yrs.
The reason your doctor is worried is because if they induce and your cervix isn't favorable for labor it will most likely end in a c-section. What got me dilating was sex (if you can) acupressure and squats. Semen can soften your cervix (they'll give you stuff at the hospital but wouldn't you rather have something natural?) and acupressure and squatting helps to descend the baby which puts pressure on the cervix helping to dilate it. Also walking will help too, and if you can walk with one foot on the curb, one off. Good luck!
