Take your dr's advice. Is there any way she could have been abused? Or has something very major or traumatic happened? Those are the only non-physical things I can think of to make night terrors happen for so long.Daughter has had sleep disturbances for 18 mths (night terrors). Dr has today suggested thyroid. Any advice?
I suffered from night terrors for over two years as a child between the ages of 6 and 8, and I eventually grew out of them. I can remember every single one to this day, including all the details of what I saw, but it does not hinder me in any way as an adult 40 years of age. If the doctor's then would have tried something medically, I am sure I would be very screwed up today either medically, mentally, or both! I also had to deal with this with my own daughter for a couple of years, and I know its not easy. My daughter slept with my wife and I for a while. Shes fine now. It takes time and patience, but after a little while you'll be able to wing her off to sleep comfortable in her own room by herself. I would not advise that you let the doctors tell you what to do in this situation. They don't know everything. That's why they practice medicine to see what works. Let this ride out. Your daughter will be fine.Daughter has had sleep disturbances for 18 mths (night terrors). Dr has today suggested thyroid. Any advice?
My 2 year old had night terrors around that age. His doctor said I could try giving him an iron supplement, b/c there is a slight link. She said, she's never had a patient whom it made a difference in though. He grew out of them about 3 months later.
Has she had her thyroid checked?
