This was found during an MRI of my lungs. The pain radiates around the rib cage to the breast bone. I haven't done anything to cause a fracture. Im 59 and not exactly running marathons. I was given no reason why this happened, what to do about it or when the pain will go away. Any advice is appreciated.I have a stress fracture in my spine. Dr. said it should heal itself. Very painful when I breathe. Any advice?
There is nothing a chiropractor can do for a stress fracture except make it worse.
A stress fracture can be cause by simply stepping off of a step wrong.
Most stress fractures that do not include trauma to the spine such as a fall landing on your feet is caused by osteoporosis.
I would ask my doctor about a bone density test. Bone density test are recommended for women over 65 and 60 for women who are at a greater risk of osteoporosis.
This is important because you do not want this to happen again. If this is the cause it can be reversed.

I would go see a chiropractor. The non -invasive treatment may be just what you need. You may be pleasingly surprised at the results you will get, I know I am.
It is odd that it is not your ribs fractured rather than your spine based on the pain you described. It will heal itself but, it will always bother you. I fractured mine twice so I am familiar with the severity of the pain. You need to try and lay on a heating pad on put one behind you if you are able to sit up. If the doctor did not wrap it up, I would get something tight to take the pressure off of it. You can buy them at a medical supply place.
The you need to slowly try begin taking in deep breaths as much as you can. and push you back against the wall and draw in your stomach. Whenever possible, take the stairs. My doctor told me once the initial pain was over, to do everything I could do to straighten my stomach muscles. This helps take the strain off your the back and alleviate some of the pain.
If you have a jacuzzi tub, they help a lot. Or join a spa and let them set up a special program specifically for your problem. You may also want to consider physical therapy for a while. They will basically do the things I mentioned. Also, swimming is good for it. Or water exercises. If this was an accident, your insurance may cover much of the therapy. In some cases they have paid for swimming pools and spas, with a doctors prescription.
Just do not do any heavy lifting and give it time to heal. It takes the back a while to heal. God bless and get well soon.
