hi sorry to here your not well, hope this helps

Physiotherapy is thought to be an important part of treatment. This helps you to cough up and clear the mucus This may prevent a build-up of infected mucus, which may prevent chest infections. A physiotherapist will advise on the correct way to drain the affected areas. This usually means that once or twice a day you should adopt a 'head down' position and do some controlled breathing exercises to clear the build up of mucus. This is often combined with chest clapping by yourself, or by a relative, carer, or friend. It takes time and effort to do this properly and regularly.

Exercise. If you are able, a daily exercise such as running, walking, swimming, dancing, aerobics, etc, helps to clear the mucus too.

Antibiotics. If you have mild bronchiectasis, you may need a course of antibiotics every 'now and then' to clear chest infections as and when they occur. A change of the colour of your sputum to green and feeling unwell usually indicates that you have a chest infection. If you have severe bronchiectasis, you may find that chest infections return quickly once you stop taking antibiotics. In this situation you may be advised to take antibiotics every day to keep chest infections away.

Immunisation against the pneumococcus bacterium and an annual 'flu jab' is advised. This reduces the chance of some types of chest infection developing.

Smoking makes symptoms worse and smokers are very strongly advised to stop.

Treatment of underlying conditions. As mentioned above, about 4 in 10 people with bronchiectasis have an underlying cause and additional treatments may be advised.

Surgery may be an option if you have a small local area of lung damage causing symptoms. Cutting out the damaged airway may cure the problem. Surgery may be considered even if you have widespread bronchiectasis. This may be to cut out a particularly bad area of lung that is acting as a reservoir for mucus and infection. Occasionally, a lung transplant may be considered in severe cases.I am suffering from Bronchiectasis,my Dr said medically is not curable any advice or remedies very wellcomed.
I am a respiratory student and NO there is no cure but you can better you life and prolong your life. Eat healthy, do light excersize to open up your lungs ( it help with diffusion and oxygenation to your lungs and body) and you should take the medicine that they give you. Smoking is what causes the disease and stop should help. I have seen people that do this and they will feel better. If i find anything else I will let you know.

I added these to help you.
Bronchiectasis is a disease that causes localized, irreversible dilatation of part of the bronchial tree. Involved bronchi are dilated, inflamed, and easily collapsible, resulting in airflow obstruction and impaired clearance of secretions. Bronchiectasis is associated with a wide range of disorders, but it usually results from necrotizing bacterial infections, such as infections caused by the Staphylococcus or Klebsiella species or Bordetella pertussis.[1]

This came from Wikipedia so apparently your smoking only irritated and caused it to become worse. Inhaled steriods and prolonged antibiotics are 2 forms of treatment. Are you on either of them. Congrats on stopping smoking, it is hard, I know, I quit after 28 years. Stay close to your doctor, new strides are being made daily in the treatment of pulmonary problems. Good luck.
I have similar they call it COPD. again caused by smoking for 60 odd years. Like you I am limited in what I can do without getting out of breath. As you say it is not curable and we can only make the best of things we can// I gave up smoking last January and I have definitely improved but still quite restricted. I just have 3 inhalers. One twice a day, a purple one , got a steroid in it. One once a day, a dry powder capsule you breath in and the usual ventolin sabutamol puffer if out of breath... I am able to get about better, walk round the shops etc. but not too far and not too fast, Get puffed doing housework, cant clean windows or cut the grass. But as I say you have to live with it and do what you can... My family help me.. Hope you have someone to help too.
have you got your oxygen level checked recently? shortness of breath could be from the low oxygen saturation caused from your disease. If it is low, maybe you need some home oxygen.

stay away from milk products as they thicken the mucous. also, you may ask your doctor for a flutter valve. this is a portable divice that you blow into to loosen the mucous in your lungs to make it easier to cough up. You can also drink warm water with some honey in it to help loosen up the thick mucous.

mucinex is also becomming very popular. we use it in the hospital all the time now. You can get it over the counter. It comes in pill form and syrup.

good luck!!
I have Bronchiectasis, I got it as a child from whooping cough (even though I was vaccinated against it.)

These days I'm fairly fine apart from I have to be careful when there are viruses going about. It still takes me a lot longer to recover from bugs/colds and stuff.

I hope your getting physio, it helped me a lot when I was younger. I can sympathise with being hugely tired as you are coughing a lot, if you were like me it didn't help that you couldn't eat much as the coughing meant I couldn't eat much as I was coughing so much it meant I couldn't keep my food down.

It's going to sound strange but try Tai Chi or Yoga. They are good because they incorporate breathing and increasing your lung capacity/ I feel it helps me to breathe better.
Go to Yahoo search and look up natural remedies for bronchitis. Yoga, herbs, and certain foods, help relive the symptoms.
