DESPERATE need of Dr/Vets advice. Does my pet have cancer or an infection?

I live in Dubai where most people don't really know what they're doing. I have a siberian darf hamster. He's just under 2 yrs old. He was morbidly obese when i got him 18 months ago if that means anything... he's pretty healthy now though...

So over 3 weeks ago i noticed what looked like a tiny tiny eye infection on his lower lid... it has a yellow tinge to it and looks a little bit puss filled... It began getting bigger and then for two weeks it stayed the same size (still quite tiny) and didn't go away. I had touched it every other day to inspect it and noticed it gave my hamster no visible pain as he seemed quite indifferent.

So this morning i took him to the vet, who i wasn't impressed with. He didn't examine him properly and rough handled him and wasn't explaining anything properly yet he charged me a $40 consulation charge and a further $80 charge for a antibiotic solution diluted in water.

He told me that what my hamster has is either an infection of a tumour which could either be malignant or benign. He claimed he couldn't identify it because my haDESPERATE need of Dr/Vets advice. Does my pet have cancer or an infection?
Use the antibiotic. If the eye clears up, then no need to worry. Keep in mind that the life expectancy of a hamster is 2 to 3 years. If he has cancer, nature will just take its course. He's getting up there in years for a hamster.
